    Welcome to Local Knit

Welcome to Local Knit and thanks for visiting.

Having been lucky enough to spend quite a few summers in the surf and sun of Long Island's easternmost town, there are few places I've come to love more than Montauk, NY. Some of the best days I can remember involved 6AM Bake Shoppe runs, pushing off the docks of Westlake Marina in search of diving birds and blitzing bass, then leaving the beach just in time to enjoy a few sunset beers at the Montauket. My Montauk experience has always revolved around a handful of great local businesses, each of which represents something uniquely Montauk.

When I moved to Boston a few summers ago, I wanted to bring a piece of authentic Montauk with me.  I wasn't looking for something boring that said "The End", or a fake tee that had the name and logo of an imaginary "Montauk Fishing Club", I was looking for the real deal.  I wanted a shirt from Paulie's Tackle on Edgemere Street that let people know I fish Montauk and can share f-bomb fish stories with the best of them.  I wanted a shirt from Duryea's on Tuthill Road just in case some proud Bostonian thought to question my understanding of a “lobstah” roll.

There are a bunch of local businesses I love in Montauk, and turns out I’m not the only one.  So, I decided to partner with owners to create shirts that allow locals, visitors and potential visitors another way to enjoy the character of these great spots.  We started in Montauk, but even I will admit that there are many other towns that connect with people the same way Montauk connects with me.  And, similar to Montauk, these towns are often defined by handfuls of great local businesses.

From personal experience, I can promise that each place represented in our first Montauk collection is among the best spots in town with rich histories, all of which are partly responsible for making Montauk, Montauk.  We hope you find something you like and stay tuned for more great businesses!

    See you out there,
    Pete, Local Knit Founder
